So go, enjoy the mean machine in all its glory below:
[nail]models/nc/warriors/nail/nc_warrior_01.jpg[/nail]
this beast of a metal warrior will be the standard trooper for the upcoming species of the Necrons. As promised, I am presenting the World Eaters Poweraxe! by Chromeangel!
[nail]models/we/wargear/nail/we_poweraxe_01.jpg[/nail]
It is the second part of the Plasmapistol / Poweraxe combination for the World Eaters Headquarter class and finally provides it with competetive firepower and allows it to do significant melee damage instead of running towards the enemy and basically waiting for its death. That just didnt seem right to us for a class that was modelled after the evil melee-monster Kharn The Betrayer.
So, now that this iwas fixed, you will soon be able to enjoy Chromeangels great deed ingame.

We are coming along nicely :). Today im showing off one of ChromeAngels latest good deeds ( or evil deeds if you want to put it that way ) ). Its is the world eaters plasmapistol. A weapon that will be used in conjunction with a powerfull chainaxe ( which im gonna show off some days later ). this screenshot actually doesnt really do justice to the actual ingame model. it lacks a new feature, that valve included with HL1 for STEAM: trasnparent model textures. The model actually has a second mesh over some of its parts that immitates a glistering surface through an additive rendermode. You will have to wait till we release our next version, to get to see that. Until then, enjoy the screenshot below: [nail]models/we/wargear/nail/we_plasmapistol_01.jpg[/nail]

recently, I finsihed a new model for the Black Templar Terminator weapons. it is the powerfist, that we use in combination with the assaultcannon, stormbolter and heavy flamer. the rework has been doen, because Colonel Straken from 1st. Catachan mentioned that the old version didnt really look like the original model. especially because it isnt round enough. well, here you can take a peek at a well rounded new version of it :D.
[nail]species/bt/wargear/nail/bt_powerfist_01.jpg[/nail]

it has already been quite a while, since chromeangel deemed his new map rs_ac_major ready for a public release. it is even already included in the actual version.
that wont keep me from showing it off to the public though. so peel your eyes and take a glance at the visuals below!
[nail]levels/levels/major/nail/rs_ac_major0005.jpg[/nail][nail]levels/levels/major/nail/rs_ac_major0007.jpg[/nail]
if you want to take a deeper look at it, visit our levels page or play it on lan, or try to get an admin to change to it.

as avid forum users or regular visitors of gamag.org already know, bloodyharry did finish his necron tomb spider a while ago, while i was working on the input that we recieved from the 1.166 release. i didnt get to update you on his progress. however, now is the time to let you peek at is damn nice work :D take a closer look at it below:
[nail]species/nc/vehicles/nail/nc_tombspider_01.jpg[/nail]
this model will be used for necron vehicle class which might be a very interesting elemnt of gameplay my current thoughts wander around something like a mobile respawn location and a mass healing unit. but thats very early stuff. it will take quite some time until we will see this beauty in the game.

on another note, just today i finished moving over our page to the new location. the last step was moving the forum. sadly i was not able to move over the forum data as well. so that means, you wont find the old posts on the new forum on the positive side avatars and signatures are allowed again :). so as long as you dont infringe copyrights, you are rather free in your choice

Rival Species - News / planned steam release and modelling update
« on: August 28, 2004, 08:32:14 PM »

Author: bahl Date: 30.08.2004 07:32:14

yes, you read correctly! we are finally going to release our steam version. we anticipate the 5th of september as the official release date and will hopefully be able to promote the release with a damn nice little ingame video! apart from this footage, we plan to have a nice release meeting on our IRC channel #wh40k at irc.quakenet.org. so hopefully on sunday, i will see you around ^^.

but you dont have to take just my words to make your day, ill hand you some damn some new visual stuff too today! as we have been producing code, maps and models during the last weeks, it is now time to open the curtains for chromeangels modelling show again: he created the evil wraith for the necron species. the necrons are one of our 'later to be added' species. yet they have quite a fanbase in our modelling ranks. so go ahead and enjoy chromeangels latest player model below:

if you are a RS-regular, than you will already have expreienced the weird eldar kung-fu fighting. ( some call it bitch-slapping hehe. ) in fact the bare hands that im talking about were a preliminary solution to add a close combat weapon for standard classes of the eldar in RS. now chromeangel has set an end to this, and with a new version you will experience the shiny new eldar blade as displayed below:

we are planning to introduce the orks as a new species after the upcoming steam release. however there are many people around, that wouldve liked to see another species to enter the scene earlier: the imperial guard! so today i can present yet another little step towards their completion: the laspistol by chromeangel. so enjoy his lasershow-creating sparkling new addition to RS weaponry right here:

Rival Species - News / 3 new maps for the next version
« on: August 15, 2004, 11:12:31 PM »

Author: bahl Date: 17.08.2004 10:12:31

after some kind of vacation, im back with beautyful news for your! tonight i shall take the time to select a few screenshots from 3 new maps that will be included with the next public release:

lets start off with landingzone by dark marine. he has been around for quite a while already and now he finally managed to enter the developement team. you mgiht remember his first and second effort city_conflict and death_valley. i really liked these maps and they played great. just some technical issues kept them from becoming official.
however, with his latest effort, the landingzone, he managed to steer around such issues and produced a true beauty. his work has been supported by blood angel, who produced the nice models that he used in his maps. enjoy some screenshots below and find more of them in the LEVELS section.

we shall continue with the latest map by korkonius, that he called rust. you will find this name fitting when you take your first steps in his creation! after his first effor on the team which was called fringe, he produced a bigger and in my opinion more playable map. this time it is alaitoc eldar against iron warriors and apart form certain situations, where the combattants stare at the nice features of the level, it shall be a hard fight for them in the locations that you can preview below:

so now on to the last one, a creation of my very own. ( and yeah im proud of it. ) this new map is called fortress and it is settled in a canyon, where black templars engage iron warriors who have captured an imperial surface-to-orbit cannon to avoid the destruction of their orbiting vessels. the special feature of this map is the dome under which the cannon is stored. you just have to take a peek at it below:

Rival Species - News / the cadian sentinel - developement news
« on: July 26, 2004, 09:28:46 AM »

Author: bahl Date: 27.07.2004 08:28:46

i know, it has been a while since ive posted some news the last time.
however, you dont need to worry, we have been busy as ever behind the scenes.
so what exactly did we do? we were creating a load of maps, which i might show off during the next days.
but for today, i want to showcase the latest awesome deed of chromeangel in collaboration with straken
( well and my humble self for a little tweaking ) : the imperial guard sentinel in city camouflage.
enjoy him in all his glory below:

apart from these great modelling related news, id also like to tell something about or coding progress.
you all will certainly have heard about the announced fadeout of WON.
so STEAM shall now finally ( almost one year later than scheduled ) takeover the place of WON.
to get along with that, we will release a new version supporting STEAM.
but that is ( in terms of workload ) just a very small piece.
what you will find way more interesting are the changes to the gameplay:

throughout the first year after our public release, we had a rather low acceptance of the cheap classes.
we were constantly working on getting the expensive classes less attractive.
however, only doing that is kind of negative and so we decided to do something to increase the attractivity of the cheap classes: followbots.
now what would that be? first let me tell you what its not:
its not an autonome bot that fills a slot in a server and fights against you ( like all these other bots do ).
it is something that is only available to the cheap classes.
if you choose a standard marine or an eldar guardian, then you will be allowed to buy some 'copies' of yourself.
these 'copies' will have your equipment and will run around following your every step ( thus their name ).
well and of course they will shoot at your enemies when they come into sight.
we want to reach two aims with this:

1. increase the attractivity of the cheap classes.
2. create something that feels more like a huge battle.

the number of bots on the map is technically limited only by the capacities of the server ( well and maybe by some hidden limits in the engine ).
we will allow up to 4 copies of yourself at a time. so with a maximum of 32 players, you could reach a maximum of 160 running models on a map....
thats an insane amount actually and we might have to adjust the stated number a bit.

Rival Species - News / rain of models
« on: June 24, 2004, 11:10:10 PM »

Author: bahl

thats some rainy day, that you will surely enjoy ^^. these days we started coding for the next version again, and alongside with that, i decided, to hand out the model goodness, that got stuck in the pipe during the weeks.
due to reallife issues, its been a while since the last update, but here we are again, and we bring you: 3 new models from the incredible chromangel! that starts off with a slick, dark cultist. this model has an interesting story, of which you can read a part if you search for game mode ideas on the board. we had a nice discussion about new game modes on irc and one idea that sprung off of that discussion is some sort of ritual, which one side has to defend, while the other has to stop it. so enjoy the servant in his devout ways:

but thats only the beginning. you might recall that mindblighter lately finsihed the khorne bloodletter class-model. that blood lusty lad is still feating his lust with his bare hands. that cant stay this way, so here is chromangels great new deamonsword:

but the best is yet to come ^^. throughout the last weeks we gathered the orkish horde, but it was still without a boss! so that situation ahs an end, and in coproduction with my humble self, chromeangel produced this orkish warboss:

he is all mean and green ( well at least under his big fat mega-armor ;) ) and waiting to crush the puny humans.
so what can those poor humans do against him? not much you might guess... you didnt even see much from them so far. but rest assured, they will get their arsenal, to blow this green pestilence back into space, when the right time has come. today we just start of with a nice opener for that orkish can. crusader has finished his first real weapon mode with this one, and he is already working at animation another weapon. so enjoy the imperial powersword:
