CAPTAIN mesh: bahl skin: bahl anim: bahl
A Space Marine Captain is the ultimate commander of a company of up to a hundred men who he leads by example, with skill and bravery as well as the Chapter's finest weaponry.

The Headquarters leader is the Black Templar Commander, a powerful and versatile close assault unit in Rival Species. The HQ has enough health to absorb some serious firepower, and is capable of taking a variety of weapons. Any players choosing the HQ class other than the leader will find themselves as (effectively) normal marines (see below). The HQ’s weapon options are as follows (not in order): Combat Knife, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword + Bolt Pistol (combo), Plasma Pistol + Power Sword (combo), Plasma Pistol + Power Axe (combo), Frag Grenades (x4), Bolter, Flamer. He can pick as many weapons as his point pool allows, with the following exceptions: he cannot have more than one “combo” weapon (that is, a paired melee + ranged weapon option), and he cannot have both the bolter and the flamer. Additionally, if any “combo” weapon is chosen, the combat knife is not available; choosing a “combo” weapon makes the knife obsolete. Generally, an HQ is well served by choosing one of the two power weapon/plasma pistol combos, and perhaps grenades. Additionally, a Flamer can be useful if the enemy is consistently fielding a Dreadnought or Wraithlord. The HQ is effective both in charging foes with their deadly melee weapons, and in offering supporting fire with their blasts of plasma. Finally, the HQ Leader has the ability to make one class on his team “veterans”, giving them more hp and other benefits. This is usually best used on the class with the most people in it, for mass benefits.

MARINE mesh: bahl skin: bahl anim: bahl
Space Marines are the Imperium's finest warriors. Their Chapters have defended mankind for ten thousand years since the Emperor's Great Crusade. Genetically enhanced, defended by power armour and well equipped, few can oppose them.

The basic troops for the Black Templars, Marines are versatile, able to fulfill a couple of different roles. They are pretty resilient, with their Power Armor, and they are able to act both offensively and defensively; Marines with Bolters are effective at any range, and Flamers offer incredible short range destructive power. Additionally, the Marine Leader can also select a Chainsword + Bolt Pistol combo, making him a devastating close combat troop. In general, as a Marine, you can benefit from either running around shooting, or sitting and taking shots from cover, whatever your inclination may be. Finally, Marines can spawn one follow bot each; this bot is generally dumb but will attack a nearby enemy and follow you around. They are spawned with the “Special Move” key, costing half the points of a normal Marine. Upon a Marine’s death, he can choose to take over his bot instead of respawning, once again paying half of the normal spawn cost. Bolt Pistol is buyable as a backup weapon, but does not serve much of a purpose, unless you have a Flamer and REALLY feel like something for longer range targets. Finally, all Marines can take Frag Grenades… for throwing…

DEVASTATOR mesh: bahl skin: bahl anim: bahl
Devastators are death from afar. They are Space Marine heavy weapon specialists (and they have the heavy weapons to prove it…). They are as tough as normal marines, but are generally less mobile, since the need to deploy their heavy weapons before firing greatly reduces their speed. More than the other Black Templar classes, their need to deploy their weapons, and their greater accuracy while stationary, make them a more defensively-oriented class. Often times, the best thing to do is to find a good spot with a nice field of fire, and sit down there. All three Devastator Heavy Weapons (Heavy Bolter, Missile Launcher, Lascannon) are powerful against vehicles, in their own way: Heavy Bolters can offer strong stream of sustained fire against walkers, while Missile Launchers can often score direct hits on the big and slow Dreadnoughts; finally, Lascannons offer extremely powerful single shots. In addition to their primary weapons, Devastators can equip themselves with Knives, Bolt Pistols (useful as a sidearm when running, and especially nice for supplementing the small ammo supply of the Lascannon), and Frag Grenades. The Devastator Leader can also take (in addition to other choices) a Chainsword + Bolt Pistol combo, to add some more punch in close ranges and melee.

TERMINATOR mesh: bahl skin: bahl anim: bahl
Only the hundred warriors of a Chapter's First Company have access to Tactical Dreadnought or Terminator armour. Veterans of countless wars, Terminators are near invulnerable and have incredibly powerful weapons built into their armoured suits.

ASSAULT mesh: bahl > khaza skin: bahl > khaza anim: bahl
A portion of Space Marines from every Chapter are equipped with jump packs. These allow the Marines to use the power of flight to carry out shock assaults and capture objectives.

Assault Marines are the shock troops of the Black Templars army. They are equipped with powerful close combat weaponry, and have Jump Packs, letting them fly for short distances, granting them excellent mobility. Their standard (and best) armament is the Chainsword + Bolt Pistol combo, and their airborne nature means that Frag Grenades can often be lobbed down from on high. Their ability to jet around the map makes them ideal for carrying the object in capture missions. Good tactics for Assaults include firing your pistol at a foe as you close (perhaps swooping in from above), and then finishing them in melee. Unless you are REALLY strapped for points, or REALLY feel the need to have a weapon with a crosshair, I would suggest not bothering with the Bolt Pistol on its own, and just using the combo. Making a “Jump” requires about 3 bars of energy; check the HUD’s energy meter to see how much you have. It slowly recharges itself over time.
